President’s Letter

Welcome to the Washington Alpha Chapter of Sigma Alpha Epsilon,

College is not only a place to obtain a degree and move on to the professional world, but also a place to develop lifelong relationships. The defining feature of college is its community. Sigma Alpha Epsilon has been fostering community and brotherhood at the University of Washington since 1906. Walking around the House, you find yourself surrounded by Brothers that encourage you, challenge you, and help you succeed in all facets of life. Brothers of SAE are True Gentlemen living each day to its fullest.

My name is Nic Boedeker, I am the current President of Sigma Alpha Epsilon. I am from Los Angeles, CA, and I am a Junior majoring in Economics (B.A.) with a minor in Data Science. When I joined the Chapter two years ago, I saw a tightly knit group of men with passion and motivation to succeed in all areas of life.

Here at SAE, we have four core values: Scholarship, Service, Leadership, and Friendship.

Scholarship is a top priority at SAE, and we have an amazing network of support where we can challenge each other to succeed. In the Spring and Fall of 2020, we reached a 3.63 and 3.56, which is above both the Dean’s List quota as well as the all men’s average at The University of Washington. Despite our success, we strive to improve and push each other to be the best scholars that we can be.

Service and philanthropy are a very important part of our fraternity lives as well. SAE’s national philanthropy is Children’s Miracle Network and as a chapter we work with Seattle Children’s Hospital year-round to fundraise for them. In the Fall, we held a virtual fundraiser and  raised $3,251 during our SAE’s Month of Giving Back, and we continue to work with them to find ways to raise money.

Leadership is important in all aspects of life. Through SAE’s leadership opportunities both in the House and at a national level, you will develop the tools to become a great leader in your future endeavors. Our Alumni network is also extensive and reaches across the nation. Fostering Alumni relationships and entering the job market after your undergraduate degree will be an easy, smooth transition.

Friendship is the most important part of creating a bond with your Brothers. The friendships that I have made in my two years here are going to last a lifetime. Brotherhood is heavily emphasized in our House because being in a fraternity is about creating lifelong bonds that can survive any amount of time, distance, or turmoil.

Throughout the time COVID-19 has been rampant in our community, the Brothers of SAE have been rising to the occasion each day. We have yet to contract a single case in the entirety of the Chapter and we continue to take the most serious of precautions to maintain our health and well-being. We have continued distance within our living spaces, pack individual meals, and host strictly virtual events. Our recruitment process is strictly virtual for the time being.

If you are interested in SAE, whether you are a parent orstudent, do not hesitate to reach out. I am open to anyone to answer any questions you may have, and I look forward to getting to know you!

Sincerely,

Nic Boedeker
